LOS ANGELES – Police officers will add a new weapon to their arsenal this Christmas – the iPad.

LAPD command officers will receive the tablets after the Police Foundation donated 100 new Apple iPad 2 devices to the police force.

Commander Andy Smith said while the details of how officers will use the iPads are still being worked out, he expects they will be a valuable tool for communication.

“I think it’s a really valuable tool for the police,” said Smith. “I think it’s going to be a terrific step up and move forward in technology for all of us.”
