Wikipedia was joined by thousands of other websites Wednesday that have gone dark in protest to  proposed legislation they say would limit Internet freedom.

The 24-hour protest is in response to a piece of legislation before Congress known as SOPA – the Stop Online Piracy Act. The proposed act would crack down on sites that offer pirated music, movies and other goods.

KFWB’s Maggie McKay spoke with KTLA tech reporter Rich Demuro, who explained what the protest really means.
