Extra funds needed to fly the friendly skies
Beginning today Allegiant Airlines will begin charging its passengers a fee of up to $35 for bringing a carry on bag.
The airline says the fee will vary depending on route and how early you check in. If the bag is small enough so that it it fits on your lap or under the seat the fee will be waived.
Allegiant is based in Las Vegas and is an ultra low cost airline that offers cheap fares but charges for additional services.
It is the second major airline to start charging for carry-ons. Spirit Airlines was the first to do so in 2010 and dealt with a lot of criticism for it but it did increase its profit by 10% in the months after the carry on fee was added.
