Trayvon march in downtown LA today
(CNS) – Members of various civil-rights and community groups plan to take hold a rally and march in downtown Los Angeles today demanding justice for Trayvon Martin, who was fatally shot in Florida by a neighborhood watch captain who has not been arrested.
Marchers will gather at 4 p.m. at Pershing Square, at Fifth and Hill streets, and begin walking to City Hall at 6 p.m. for a rally on the west side of the building at First and Spring streets, according to the ANSWER Los Angeles Coalition.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the streets along the march route will be closed to vehicular traffic while marchers are walking to City Hall, but will be reopened after the marchers pass through them.
The route is as follows: from Pershing Square at Fifth and Hills streets, northbound on Hill Street, eastbound on Fourth Street, northbound on Broadway, eastbound on First Street, and northbound on Spring Street to the west side of City Hall.
Martin, 17, was fatally shot Feb. 26 by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman. A Florida special prosecutor today said she would not take the case to a Florida grand jury, but would continue pursuing her investigation.
