George Lucas' empire tired of striking back
George Lucas’ empire is tired of striking back. So the force behind the “Star Wars” movies and franchise has decided to abandon its long-running battle to build a palatial film studio in the pastoral hills north of San Francisco.
Lucasfilm Ltd. shocked Marin County officials yesterday by announcing it’s giving up plans to build the controversial Grady Ranch project, citing bitter opposition from neighbors and delays in the approval process.
A spokesman said the company will build its new digital media production studio elsewhere where its presence will be viewed as a creative and cultural asset, and not an “evil empire.”
