(CNS) – A gray whale was found entangled in a net near Laguna Beach today.
A team from the Pacific Marine Mammal Center was assembled at 1:15 p.m. when the call came in that a whale had gotten stuck in a net, said Melissa Sciacca, the center’s director of development.
The team had attached one buoy to the whale and were working to put another one in place before cutting the line loose, Sciacca said. The buoys will help the rescuers track the whale, which had gotten down to the San Clemente Pier as of 4:15 p.m. and was headed south, Sciacca said.
It was the third such rescue the center has been involved in over the past month, Sciacca said.
