(AP) – London’s theater community is feeling increasingly confident that the city’s vibrant culture won’t suffer during a summer devoted to celebrating sport.
West End producers had been apprehensive that an expected crush of tourists coming for Summer Olympics could deter other people from traveling to London or many visitors from enjoying its nightlife this summer.
Producer Nica Burns says there was initially “a fear factor” because no one knew what to expect from the games.
But Olympic organizers and London authorities have put on a big push to promote the non-sporting delights Britain’s capital has to offer.
Olympic organizers marked the 100-day countdown to Olympics on Wednesday with a Trafalgar Square rally featuring dozens of theater performers dancing in the drizzle. The games run from July 27 to Aug. 12.
