You want to be cautious if you’re buying and selling stuff on Craigslist. Dozens of Southern California bicycling enthusiasts have had their expensive, high-tech rides ripped off after advertising high-end gear on the widely read, web-based classified sales site.
Some of the prized bikes stolen had carbon-fiber frames that cost several dollars each. Others sported interchangeable components that are virtually impossible to trace.
The good news is that three men alleged to be at the core of theft ring are behind bars, and about $100,000 worth of parts have been recovered.
