If you’re planning on driving on Coldwater Canyon south of Ventura anytime in the next year, be prepared for what could be some lengthy delays.
The Department of Water and Power will begin installing a major water line today to replace one that ruptured in 2009 and caused massive flooding. Between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. weekdays — and occasionally on Saturdays — Coldwater Canyon will be reduced to one lane of traffic intermittently, generally between Halkirk Street and Avenida del Sol. Flag crews will be on hand to direct traffic through the area.
DWP officials said the restriction could cause some significant traffic delays in the area and urged that you to find another way to get around the closure.
Traffic in downtown Los Angeles this weekend will also be extra heavy. The Clippers, Lakers and Kings will all host playoff games at Staples Center between Thursday and Sunday and the final stage of the 2012 Amgen Tour of California will roll through the downtown area, creating heavier than normal traffic.
Officials expect the biggest delays will be on Sunday when crowds will be in and around Staples for the Kings game and the bike race.
Throw into the mix the Dodgers will be hosting the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend and a trade show taking place at the Convention Center and we could be in for the 2012 version of Carmageddon.
