(AP) – A Tucson toddler is days away from a kidney transplant operation that will give him a chance to live a normal life. He’ll be getting a kidney from family friend Briana Delcampo.
The 18-year-old says she wanted to help after seeing the heartache Isaiah Hernandez’s family has gone through. The toddler was born with end-stage renal failure. Several people stepped forward to be tested as possible donors. Delcampo ended up being a perfect match.
Tucson television station KGUN reports that Delcampo is a bit nervous but she says family support has helped her get through it. The operation is scheduled for May 29.
The toddler’s mother, Terri Hernandez, says her son has just a few more tests to make sure he’s ready for the operation.
