Mountain lion in Santa Monica killed
(AP) – Santa Monica police say a mountain lion discovered in an office building courtyard has been shot and killed after it tried to escape.
Capt. Daniel Sforza of California Department Fish and Game says agents tried a number of methods to subdue the young male mountain lion Tuesday morning. Ultimately, however, the cat was trying to get out of the courtyard and was shot and killed by police.
The mountain lion was found at about 6 a.m. Tuesday by a janitor in a courtyard near a popular open air mall. The street was cordoned off as a safety precaution.
It’s not immediately known how the cat ended up in the middle of the city, far from wilderness areas.
