(CNS) – A Metrolink train struck and killed a man in Pico Rivera today, authorities said.
Sherita Coffelt of Metrolink said train number 409 was en route from Riverside to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles when it hit the person on the Rio Hondo Bridge near Whittier Boulevard shortly after 9 a.m.
The man died at the scene, said sheriff’s Lt. Steve Sanchez of the Pico Rivera Station. Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of his relatives.
Late this morning, about 350 passengers were still awaiting clearance from officials before they could get off the train because it had to stop on the bridge. Buses were being brought in to accommodate the passengers, Coffelt said.
