(AP) – Illinois native Ray Bradbury has died at 91 after a lengthy career of writing everything from science-fiction to mystery to humor.

Bradbury’s daughter today confirmed that he died last night, but she didn’t give any additional details.

Bradbury transformed his childhood dreams and Cold War fears into telepathic Martians, lovesick sea monsters, and in “Fahrenheit 451″ his vision of a book-burning future.

Bradbury’s series of stories in “The Martian Chronicles” was a Cold War morality tale in which events on another planet served as a commentary on life on this planet. It has been published in more than 30 languages.

Bradbury was born in 1920 in Waukegan, Ill.

He’s survived by his four daughters. Marguerite Bradbury, his wife of 56 years, died in 2003.
