(AP) – The outpouring of support for a 68-year-old school bus monitor near Rochester, N.Y., who was taunted by seventh graders is being matched by outrage and anger at her tormentors.

A video showing Karen Klein being taunted on the bus has become an international rallying point against bullies. A fund that was set up to raise money for a vacation for Klein has collected more than $275,000.

Meanwhile, police say the boys who taunted her have received death threats. They say the cell phone of one of the 13-year-old boys is filled with more than 1,000 missed calls and 1,000 text messages threatening him.

Klein says she doesn’t want the boys to face criminal charges.

The video, captured by another student’s cellphone, shows Klein trying her best to ignore the profanity, insults and threats. One student taunted, “You don’t have a family because they all killed themselves because they don’t want to be near you.”

Klein’s oldest son killed himself 10 years ago.

She told NBC today that she hopes the parents of those kids will talk to them about being “a little more respectful.”

As for the support she’s receiving from around the world, she says it’s “really awesome.”
