Pasadena college fires official in bribery case
(AP) – Pasadena City College officials say they’ve fired a high-ranking school official named in an ongoing criminal bribery probe. In a statement Wednesday, spokesman Juan Gutierrez says the board voted in closed session to end the contract with Vice President of Administrative Services Richard Van Pelt, effective immediately.
Gutierrez says the board also was given a recommendation to terminate the contract with Board Facilities Services Supervisor Alfred Hutchings.
The county’s criminal investigation focuses on solicitation of bribes for a competitive contract for the school last year.
The contract was never awarded. Prosecutors received a complaint in March. Officials are also investigating other campus contracts for impropriety.
Hutchings remains on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
