Giants fan beating defendants arraigned in LA
(AP) – Two men ordered to stand trial for assault in the beating of a San Francisco Giants fan at Dodger Stadium have made a brief court appearance as the pretrial process begins.
Louie Sanchez and Marvin Norwood pleaded not guilty at a Los Angeles Superior Court arraignment Friday and were told to return July 24 for further proceedings.
Sanchez’s lawyer bowed out of the case, saying he was retained only for the preliminary hearing. The judge agreed to appoint a public defender.
Bryan Stow, a paramedic from Northern California, attended last year’s opening day game in Los Angeles where he was severely beaten. He suffered brain damage and is permanently disabled.
Evidence in the preliminary hearing included a jailhouse tape of Sanchez and Norwood talking about beating up a Giants fan.
