Pack of dogs mauls bicyclist in Central Valley

(AP) – Authorities in the Central Valley say a man suffered serious injuries when he was mauled by a pack of roaming dogs while riding his bike. The attack on Wednesday morning near the town of Delhi in Merced County left the man with bite marks on his arms, legs and torso. He was in serious, but stable condition at a hospital.

Merced County Sheriff’s officials say a pack of about six dogs – most pit bulls or pit bull mixes – dragged the man off his bike. The same pack had apparently chased another bicyclist earlier. That person suffered a leg bite, but was able to get away.

Sgt. Scott Dover says the dogs came from three homes in the area and appear to have jumped backyard fences. They have been gathered up and quarantined.

Their owners could face criminal charges.
