LOS ANGELES (KFWB) — Cell phone video of comedian Dane Cook making a joke about the recent theater shootings in Aurora, Colo., during a stand-up routine was released to the Daily Caller Friday.

Cook was performing at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood Thursday night when an audience member took a video of the comedian expressing his feelings about “The Dark Knight Rises”.

“So I heard that the guy came into the theater about 25 minutes into the movie, and I don’t know if you’ve seen the movie, but the movie is pretty much a piece of crap. Yeah, spoiler alert,” he said on stage. “I know that if none of that would have happened, pretty sure that somebody in that theater, about 25 minutes in, realizing it was a piece of crap, was probably like, ‘Ugh, f****** shoot me.’”

In the video, some audience members can be heard laughing, while others groan.

Cook is not the first comedian to use a recent tragedy as a part of a stand-up routine.

Just a few months after the Columbine High School massacre in 1999, Chris Rock made jokes about the shootings.

Gilbert Gottfried did a bit about flying a few weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks. In March 2011, he was fired as the voice of Aflac’s duck mascot for making jokes about the tsunami in Japan on Twitter.

In 2009, Carlos Mencia made a joke about African Americans in reference to Hurricane Katrina.
