Teen surrenders after dad spots him in photo
(AP) – A teenager wanted for stealing nine cash registers from Southern California businesses has surrendered after his father recognized him in a newspaper photograph of the suspect.
The father of 18-year-old Matthew Barcinas saw the surveillance video photo in the Torrance Daily Breeze.
Los Angeles police say Barcinas told detectives on Tuesday that he stole the cash registers from businesses in San Pedro and Rancho Palos Verdes during an 11-hour crime spree starting on July 11. Investigators say Barcinas smashed windows, grabbed cash registers and loaded them into his father’s car. They were pried open at another location.
Defense attorney Henry Salcido says the teen’s father confronted his son after spotting the photo in Sunday’s newspaper. Barcinas was booked for investigation of burglary and he was released on $20,000 bail.
