LAX luggage arrest
(CNS) – A 54-year-old Hawthorne man was arrested for allegedly stealing luggage at Los Angeles International Airport, police announced today. Fidel Enrique Fleites was arrested at his home, according to Sgt. Belinda Nettles of the Los Angeles Airport Police.
Authorities received a tip and set up surveillance in LAX parking structures, Nettles said. Detectives saw Fleites removing victims’ luggage from a baggage carousel at LAX, Nettles said.
Jewelry, electronics, clothing and other personal items were seized from Fleites’ home and returned to the victims, Nettles said. He was booked at the Los Angeles Police Department Pacific Division Jail without incident.
“This arrest highlights the close cooperation and continuous teamwork of the LAX Crime Task Force,” Los Angeles Airport Police Chief Michael Hyams said in a statement. “The positive results of our joint operations contribute to LAX’s reputation as one of the safest airports in the United States.”
The sheriff’s Inmate Information Center indicated Fleites appeared in court Monday, but no information was available regarding his expected release date.
