(CNS) – A cyclist was hospitalized with severe head injuries today after being struck by a pickup truck in a hit-and-run collision in the Central City area of Los Angeles. The cyclist was eastbound on 32nd Street when he was struck by a 1990s model pickup going southbound on Central Avenue about 9 p.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Kevin Custard of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Bureau.
“The truck’s driver did not stop to render aid to the bicyclist,” Custard said. “The driver kept going southbound on Central.”
“He has some pretty severe head injuries,” Custard said, describing the cyclist’s condition this afternoon as critical.
Witnesses described the hit-and-run vehicle as a 1992- to 1998-model red Chevrolet Silverado flatbed, with painted white panels.
Investigators planned to check surveillance footage from businesses in the intersection to see if they caught the collision and can help police catch the driver, who faces felony hit-and-run charges, Custard said.
