FBI agent's death ruled suicide
(CNS) – The death of an FBI agent who had been missing for more than two months was confirmed today as a suicide. Assistant Coroner Chief Ed Winter said Stephen Ivens, 35, died “from a self-inflicted wound.”
Police said Ivens’ gun was found near his body when it was discovered July 30 in the 3600 block of Scott Road.
Ivens was last seen May 10 near his home in the 1700 block of Scott Road. His family conducted a series of public events in recent weeks to keep the search for Ivens active.
FBI Special Agent Steve Gomez said earlier that Ivens, who worked in counter-terrorism, was “distraught” and possibly suicidal when he disappeared. Why he was thought to be distraught was not clear.
