(AP) – The death of a Southern California woman is being investigated as possibly related to the heat wave that has gripped the state all week. The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department says 49-year-old Cindy Marie Grycel of San Bernardino was found unresponsive on the ground next to her wheelchair shortly at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Grycel was hospitalized but never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead late Thursday. The coroner’s office says the cause of death appears to be heat-related but an autopsy is scheduled to confirm the diagnosis.
National Weather Service online records from various San Bernardino locations show temperatures were at or near 100 degrees at the time the woman was found.
The office notes that she has no known family.
