'Bourne' hotter than Batman

(CNS) – The latest installment of the “Bourne” action series finally knocked Batman out of the top spot at the North American box office, debuting in first place over a much-publicized Will Ferrell comedy, according to final figures released today.

The Bourne Legacy” opened with $38.1 million to claim the top spot, while Ferrell’s “The Campaign” debuted in second place with $26.6 million, according to Hollywood.com Box Office.

The Dark Knight Rises” finally fell out of the number-one spot at the box office after a three-week run, dropping to third place with $19 million. The final chapter of the Batman film trilogy has earned more than $389.5 million in four weeks.

The Meryl Streep-Tommy Lee Jones romantic comedy “Hope Springs” opened in fourth place with $14.6 million, while the action film “Total Recall” earned $8.01 million to place fifth.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days” ($8 million); “Ice Age: Continental Drift” ($6.4 million); “Ted” ($3.2 million); “Step Up: Revolution” ($2.9 million); and “The Watch” ($2.2 million.
