Going for the gold

Some number crunchers have figured out that the old Soviet Union would have finished with 38 gold medals in the just concluded Olympics – good enough to tie China for second.

Well, SportsPickle.com loved the concept; but didn’t think there should be a time limit.

So if these Olympics had been held back in the day- like the years 1280 – the Mongol Empire would have crushed everyone with 272 total medals, 97 gold.

Also in their “Ye Old Olympics,” the British Empire of 1910 checks in with 174 and 53.

And who can forget the old Roman Empire? Just 1912 years removed from 137 total medals, and 44 gold.

Nearly two thousand years ago. NBC taped ‘em and will show it next week.
