(CNS) – The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose today for the 34th time in 35 days, increasing four-tenths of a cent to $4.115, its highest amount since June 11.

The average price has increased 42.3 cents over the past 35 days and is 15.9 cents more than one week ago, 38.4 cents higher than one month ago and 40.2 cents greater than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The Orange County average price rose today for the 33rd time in 35 days, increasing one-tenth of a cent to $4.094, its highest amount since June 9. It is 15 cents more than one week ago, 39.9 cents higher than one month ago and 39.5 cents greater than one year ago.

The Orange County average price has increased 45.1 cents over the past 35 days, including a half-cent on Wednesday.

Analysts attribute much of the recent increases to the major fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond Aug. 6 that caused wholesale gasoline prices to begin to rise the following day out of fears of reduced supplies.
