LAPD probe excessive-force claim in video arrest

(AP) – Los Angeles police are investigating an allegation that officers dog-piled and punched a skateboarder who was already subdued during a videotaped arrest.

A video clip shows four officers apparently struggling on the ground with 20-year-old Ronald Weekley Jr. on Saturday in the Venice area. One officer punched him in the head. Weekley claims he suffered a broken nose and cheekbone and a concussion.

Cmdr. Andrew Smith says officers spotted Weekley riding his skateboard in traffic and tried to arrest him. They called for backup and Weekly was arrested on suspicion of using force to resist a police officer. He was released from jail on Monday.

Weekley tells KTLA-TV that he couldn’t have resisted with four officers on top of him. Smith says the LAPD will conduct a use-of-force internal investigation.
