SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Officials are hoping a red flag warning will not hamper the anticipated containment of two major wildfires across Northern California. CalFire spokeswoman Julie Hutchinson said Tuesday that despite the Ponderosa Fire now being 96 percent contained, high speed winds and low humidity may delay full containment of the fire for days.
The blaze has consumed more than 43 square miles and destroying more than 142 structures.
The warning is also affecting a fire in the Plumas National Forest which remains 71percent contained after scorching more than 104 square miles. Crews still hope that that blaze will be fully contained by Friday.
