Romneys in Tampa; Ann Romney to speak tonight
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Mitt Romney and his wife Ann are in Tampa, Fla., where tonight, Mrs. Romney will be working to present her husband to the nation as more than just a successful businessman and former governor. She says she’s tickled that her husband will be on hand for her speech to the Republican National Convention.
Mitt Romney has spent part of the day today at two fundraisers in Tampa. His running mate, Paul Ryan, also arrived in the convention city today. Ryan accepts the vice presidential nomination tomorrow night.
In addition to Ann Romney, convention delegates tonight will hear from the keynote speaker, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. He says for those Americans who aren’t yet sold on Romney, “you start turning it around tonight.” In a meeting with Michigan delegates, Christie said it’s more important to have a president who is effective than one who is likeable.
The convention is moving forward under its revised schedule, after a one-day delay due to Hurricane Isaac.
