CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Despite a wet week unfolding around the Democratic National Convention, organizers say the president’s outdoor acceptance speech Thursday in Charlotte will go on rain or shine.

The National Weather Service says there is a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms Thursday night, but meteorologist Jeffrey Taylor says it’s impossible to pinpoint when and where storms will materialize. President Barack Obama is set to speak around 10:30 p.m. at Bank of America Stadium that night.

It has rained every day since Saturday, when many visitors began to arrive ahead of the convention.

Democratic National Convention Committee spokeswoman Joanne Peters says organizers have a contingency plan for severe weather, but she has refused to release the details.

For football games at the stadium, officials urge fans to go into the concourses when there is a threat of lightning.
