First lady previews speech
WASHINGTON (AP) – Michelle Obama says she wants to use tonight’s speech at the Democratic National Convention to remind Americans of the values that drive her husband to do what he’s done, “and what he is going to do for the next four years.”
She says she will “take folks back to the man he was before he was president.”
The mayor of San Antonio, Texas, Julian Castro, delivers the keynote address tonight — a nod to the importance of Hispanic voters.
This evening’s speakers will also include Lilly Ledbetter, namesake of gender fair pay legislation.
The party’s platform, which endorses abortion rights and higher taxes on wealthier Americans — will be adopted today.
