LA Unified, administrators agree on evaluations

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Los Angeles Unified School District has reached an agreement with the district’s administrators on a new job performance evaluation system that will include multiple measures of student achievement. Superintendent John Deasy told the school board Tuesday that the new system will include rankings of student progress, including attendance, suspensions, English-learner reclassification and college-prep course pass rates.

Deasy called the agreement a remarkable breakthrough. The deal still needs to be ratified by the membership of Associated Administrators of Los Angeles, the bargaining unit for principals and other administrators, as well as the school board.

Meanwhile, the board on Tuesday postponed consideration of a proposal to hammer out a new teacher evaluation system in collective bargaining with the teachers union, which opposes using standardizes test scores to measure classroom performance.
