REPRESA, Calif. (AP) – Guards have quelled a fight among inmates at California State Prison, Sacramento that has left one inmate shot and at least 10 others hospitalized with stab or slash wounds. State Corrections officials say the disturbance broke out in one of the yards involving an unknown number of inmates at the maximum-security facility shortly after 11 a.m.
Officials say that besides using less-than-lethal force, officers using a rifle shot one inmate who was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Their condition has not been released. At least10 other inmates are also being treated at a hospital after suffering either stab or slash wounds.
Officials say it appears that no prison staffers have been injured in the incident.
Nearly a dozen inmates were taken to outside hospitals after a riot at the same prison in December.
