HONOLULU (AP) – Hawaii fishermen have spotted a large dock drifting toward Oahu that may be debris from tsunamis that hit Japan last year. Hawaii News Now reports a Maui fisherman climbed on the dock and saw Japanese writing.
Fishermen estimate the dock is about 30 feet by 50 feet. They saw it off Molokai, heading toward Oahu on Wednesday. The Coast Guard is notifying mariners of the debris.
A 165-ton concrete dock torn loose from a Japanese fishing port washed ashore in Newport, Ore. in June. A large blue storage bin bearing the name of a Japanese seafood company was found in the ocean off Waimanalo earlier this week. State and federal officials are trying to determine if it’s from the tsunamis.
