Sunset Boulevard bridge over 405 reopens
LOS ANGELES (AP) – The new and improved Sunset Boulevard bridge over Interstate 405 has reopened more than two years after demolition and reconstruction work began. The overpass reopened just before dawn on Monday.
The seismically upgraded span is 30 feet wider, five feet higher and now has eight lanes to carry up to 22,000 vehicles that travel over the bridge on a typical weekday.
The bridge widening is part of the massive project to add a northbound carpool lane to the 405, one of the nation’s busiest highways.
