Plastic wrap prank leads to bomb squad rollout
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – A prankster may be facing criminal charges for wrapping a co-worker’s pickup truck in cellophane outside a Southern California hospital with ominous appearing notes on the grill.
The bomb squad was dispatched Thursday afternoon to Anaheim Memorial Medical Center to investigate the pickup with notes reading “Plastics are hazardous,” “Keep distance” and “Truck armed with plastics.”
City News Service says officers cordoned off the area, locked down the medical center and blocked traffic on busy La Palma Avenue for hours.
It turned out it was a co-worker’s prank targeting a hospital employee who owns the Chevrolet pickup. Names weren’t released. Police Sgt. Bob Dunn says reports on the investigation, including a tally of emergency response costs, will be sent to the city attorney for possible prosecution.
