CHINO HILLS, Calif. (AP) – Investigators say an off-duty police officer confronted after a freeway road rage incident opened fire and wounded two men, sending one to a hospital.
San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies answering a shots-fired call Thursday evening found the men in the parking lot at The Shoppes in Chino Hills.
The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin says the off-duty Huntington Park officer was driving on State Route 71 when there was a road rage incident involving a car containing four men. Both cars stopped in the mall parking lot.
Investigators say the off-duty officer fired after seeing objects in the hands of two men approaching his car. Pepper spray and a knife were found at the scene.
