Downtown gun battle in Paso wounds CHP and suspect
PASO ROBLES, Calif. (AP) — A car chase suspect remains hospitalized with bullet wounds after a dramatic downtown Paso Robles gunfight that also wounded a California Highway Patrol officer.
The San Luis Obispo County Tribune says the CHP officer tried to stop a Chevrolet Camaro on U.S. Route 101 early Saturday and the car sped into the downtown area.
The Camaro crashed and the suspect fled on foot with the CHP officer running behind.
The suspect began shooting and the officer returned fire.
The CHP officer, whose name is being withheld, was treated at a hospital for a bullet wound and he was released.
The Sheriff’s Department said Monday that the suspect has been arrested and remains hospitalized. His condition and name aren’t being released.
