Fright Night Awards debut to raise blood cancer awareness

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Michael Myers of the “Halloween” film series was dubbed the scariest movie villain of all time, while Drew Barrymore earned the honor of best scream in a horror movie — from “Scream,” of course — when winners of the inaugural Fright Night Awards were announced today.

Daniel Radcliffe’s “The Woman in Black” was named favorite scary movie of the year, while “The Vampire Diaries” was named favorite supernatural TV show.

The Fright Night Awards were created by Cancer Bites, a blood cancer awareness and education campaign. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Lymphoma Research Foundation and Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation are among the groups taking part in the campaign, which is aimed at increasing awareness of the prevalence of blood cancers.

Winners were chosen in 21 categories based on online voting at http://www.frightnightawards.com.

Radcliffe was named favorite actor in a horror film for “The Woman in Black,” while Ashley Freene wasa named favorite actress in a horror film for “The Apparition.”

Marilyn Manson and Lady Gaga were also among the honorees, as celebrities who dress for Halloween every day.

“Scream” won the prize for favorite horror movies of all time.
