PASADENA, Calif. (AP) – Two men are dead and a third is hospitalized in critical condition after an explosion and fire destroyed a Pasadena boarding-type residence housing 19 people.
A 911 caller reported the explosion at about 2:15 a.m. Thursday and fire spokeswoman Lisa Derderian says it took about 20 minutes to extinguish flames engulfing the two-story home in the northwest part of the city.
Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. The cause of the explosion and fire hasn’t been determined. The Red Cross is helping about 15 men displaced by the fire.
The fire spokeswoman says the residence is a boarding-type facility housing men ranging from 40 to 50 years old. She doesn’t have any information about the facility.
