Family counselor charged with pimping teen
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) – A family counselor has been charged with human trafficking, pimping and sex counts for forcing a 15-year-old Southern California girl into prostitution and selling sexual services on the Internet.
San Bernardino County prosecutors say 42-year-old Daron Lamar Whitworth was arrested and booked Thursday on 42 counts. There are arrest warrants for two suspected accomplices.
A news release says Whitworth works as a counselor for the nonprofit EMQ FamiliesFirst agency, which provides mental-health, foster care and social services to young children and families in the county.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department began an investigation last summer when a juvenile was arrested for street prostitution in Hemet. The investigation showed most of the crimes had taken place in San Bernardino County.
Investigators believe there may be more victims.
