LA Unified, union OK test scores to judge teachers
The district said Friday the tentative agreement stipulates that classroom observation will form the bulk of a teacher’s performance appraisal, but test scores will also be included.
The agreement comes just days ahead of a court-ordered deadline scheduled for Tuesday. A judge had ordered the district and United Teachers Los Angeles to come to an agreement to resolve a lawsuit that says the district was violating state law by not using test scores as a measure of teacher performance.
Union president Warren Fletcher says test scores will only be used to set a teacher’s performance objectives, not for the final evaluation.
