PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Pasadena police were trying to determine whether there is a connection between a Christmas Day shooting that left one person dead and another injured and a crash hours later that killed a woman and a boy.

Police said a man in his 40s was fatally shot early Tuesday and another man was wounded and listed in critical condition at a nearby hospital. Their identities were not released.

More than eight hours later police say they tried to stop a SUV that was heading away from an area near the murder scene when the vehicle sped away. Police gave pursuit and the SUV smashed into a van, killing a woman and a boy in the other vehicle.

Police say there were four people in the SUV who were taken into custody.
