“Argo” is “Best” at Critics’ Choice Awards

SANTA MONICA (CNS) – “Argo” took the prize for Best Picture at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards; and Ben Affleck won the award for Best Director.
The awards were presented hours after the Academy Award nominations were announced. “Argo” was among the Academy Award nominees for Best Picture, but Affleck was not nominated for Best Director.
Daniel Day-Lewis won the Best Actor award for his performance in “Lincoln.” Jessica Chastain was awarded Best Actress for her role in “Zero Dark Thirty.” Jennifer Lawrence received the awards for Best Actress in a Comedy for her work in “Silver Linings Playbook” and Best Actress in an Action Movie for “The Hunger Games.” Quvenzhane Wallis took the award for Best Young Actress for her performance in “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”
Philip Seymour Hoffman won the award as Best Supporting Actor for his work in “The Master,” while Anne Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress for “Les Miserables.”
“Silver Linings Playbook” took the award for Best Acting Ensemble.
Tony Kushner won Best Adapted Screenplay for “Lincoln,” while Quentin Tarantino won the award for Best Original Screenplay for “Django Unchained.”
“Lincoln” had a record 13 nominations going into the awards, which were presented at the Barker Hangar at Santa Monica Airport.
The previous nomination record holder was 2011’s “Black Swan,” which was nominated for 11 awards given by the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
Also during the ceremony, writer-producer-director Judd Apatow received “Critics’ Choice Louis XIII Genius Award,” created to honor “an unprecedented demonstration of excellence in the cinematic arts.”
