LOS ANGELES (AP) – Eight people have been hurt, three critically, when flames swept through an old Los Angeles harbor area apartment building.
City fire spokesman Erik Scott says some residents of the two-story, 14-unit San Pedro apartment building apparently jumped from windows to escape the fast-moving flames.
It took 150 firefighters 34 minutes to extinguish the blaze in the building, which was built in 1923.
Scott tells KNX radio that firefighters driving through the area spotted the fire just before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The nature of the injuries to those hospitalized hasn’t been released.
The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
