If you aren’t into football this weekend what else is there to do? A lot, especially if you’re a Beatles fan.
“Backbeat,” the British musical about the birth of the legendary rock group opened Wednesday at the Ahmanson Theatre and runs through March 1 and although it is a musical, I thought it was more of a play in that they take you through the early years before the Beatles were “The Beatles.”

If you can’t make that, there’s the Beatles Fest this weekend at the Laemmle Noho 7 theater in North Hollywood. The mini-film festival is part of a city-wide celebration of John, Paul, George and Ringo.
