Villaraigosa says he’s focused on his job as mayor
LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Despite recommendations that he would quit a little early and join the President’s cabinet, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa intends to finish all of his term here.
“I am flattered and humbled by the speculation that has included my name for a possible cabinet secretary position, but I am firmly committed to remaining in L.A. and finishing my term,” the mayor said in a statement issued late Friday.
Villaraigosa, a strong Barack Obama ally and campaigner, had been floated as a possible replacement for outgoing Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
“I have said many times that I will be focused on my job as mayor of Los Angeles until 11:59 and 59 seconds on June 30, 2013,” Villaraigosa said.
