WEST HOLLYWOOD (CNS) – A ban on single-use plastic grocery bags will take effect in large West Hollywood stores tomorrow, as the city joins Los Angeles County, Santa Monica, Malibu, Long Beach and other areas that have already outlawed them.

The West Hollywood ban will affect grocery and retail stores that are at least 10,000 square feet. Stores smaller than 10,000 square feet will have to adhere to the ban beginning on Aug. 20.

Customers will have to provide their own reusable bags at affected stores, or they will be able to purchase paper bags for 10 cents each. The paper bags sold by stores must be made from at least 40 percent recycled material.

More information on the ban is available on the city’s website at www.weho.org/plasticbagban.
