LOS ANGELES (AP) — San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials say the cost of a six-day mountain manhunt for fired Los Angeles police officer Christopher Dorner will cost the department more than a half-million dollars.

Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Jodi Miller says the initial estimate is $550,000 for the search and investigation.

Up to 125 deputies, including the department’s SWAT team, hunted for Dorner, who authorities say killed four people to avenge his firing from the LAPD.

The Sheriff’s Department led a search in the San Bernardino Mountains that involved 10 other agencies. Resources included helicopters with heat-seeking technology, a Sno-Cat to ferry searchers during a storm, and armored vehicles.

Dorner was found dead in a burned cabin after a Feb. 12 gunbattle.

A Los Angeles police spokesman says that department’s costs have not been determined.
