LOS ANGELES (AP) – Los Angeles police say a man is under arrest and several floors of a hospital in the San Fernando Valley were evacuated for hours while a bomb squad examined his duffel bag.
The bag was later determined to have only clothes inside.
Police spokesman Officer Cleon Joseph said officers responded to a call at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday reporting a suspicious man in the lobby of Mission Community Hospital.
Police say officers arrived and arrested the man, but bomb squad members stayed behind to see if the bag contained explosives or other hazardous materials.
LAPD Capt. Jeffrey Burt tells KNBC-TV that police evacuated the first-floor emergency room and parts of the second and third floors. ER patients were taken to a different part of the 145-bed hospital.
